Overview:
The Siebold’s Cichlid is a large, robust, and rarely-seen Central American cichlid known for its bold personality, streamlined body, and earth-toned coloration often featuring iridescent blue or green highlights in mature adults. Native to fast-flowing rivers, this species is a fantastic option for aquarists looking to showcase naturalistic behavior and raw power in a river-style cichlid tank.

Origin:
Native to Costa Rica and western Panama, Talamancaheros sieboldii inhabits cool, oxygen-rich rivers and streamsin mountainous regions, particularly within the Talamanca mountain range, from which its genus name is derived.

Feeding:
Omnivorous. Will thrive on a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen foods such as krill, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetable matter like spirulina flakes or blanched zucchini. A balanced diet ensures strong growth and coloration.

Tank Mates:
Semi-aggressive and territorial, especially during breeding. Best housed with other large Central American cichlids, robust catfish (e.g., Plecos, Pimelodids), or characins like Silver Dollars. Avoid small or passive tank mates. Pairs may become highly territorial.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)

• pH: 7.0–8.0

• Hardness: 8–20 dGH

• Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons (larger for pairs or mixed setups)

• Prefers strong water movement, well-oxygenated water, and natural decor

Behavior & Personality:

• Intelligent and highly interactive with keepers

• Can form strong monogamous pairs

• Will dig and rearrange substrate—plan décor accordingly

• Known for confidence and assertiveness without being overly aggressive
